GREEN BAY - Apparently, Bay Port was pretty impressed with Pulaski and its football coach Gary Westerman this past season, because Bay Port athletics director Otis Chambers announced Monday that Westerman will be its new coach.

Westerman will replace Mike Williquette, who resigned after last season. In 12 seasons with the Pirates, Williquette was 90-39 and made it to two state semifinals (2003, 2005).

Westerman, who was offered the job Saturday and accepted Monday, just completed his first season as head coach with Pulaski, going 8-3, 6-2 (tied for 2nd in FRCC), while reaching Level 2 of the playoffs. Among the eight wins was a 17-3 win at Bay Port in a Fox River Classic Conference game.

Westerman will make his Bay Port debut on Aug. 24 at De Pere and in Week 2 (Aug. 31), Bay Port will play at Pulaski. Westerman will make his home debut for the Pirates in Week 3 (Sept. 7) against Notre Dame.

Bay Port made the playoffs last season, but lost in Level 1 at Appleton North. The Pirates were 4-6, 4-4 in the FRCC.

Prior to arriving at Pulaski, Westerman was an assistant coach at Kimberly.
