Upsets plentiful in balanced Big Ten

Penn State shocks Illinois. Nebraska knocks off Indiana. Minnesota wins at Indiana. Northwestern beats Michigan State. Iowa stuns Michigan.

In each case, an unranked team in the lower half of the Big Ten standings defeated a ranked team and jumbled the conference race.

It's been that kind of year in the Big Ten, the only Division I conference in which every team has at least two wins and at least two losses in league play.

It doesn't appear to be a case of mediocrity. League teams have won 80.2 percent of their non-conference games, the best in the nation.
