MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker was back at the ballpark on Saturday, one day after the death of his son.

Uecker was in the dugout before the game against the St. Louis Cardinals, then went on the air to perform his usual duties as the team's radio broadcaster. He received well wishes from several players and staff members.

Uecker's son, Steve, died Friday from complications related to San Joaquin Valley fever. He was 52.

In a statement issued late Friday night, Uecker called it "a very difficult time" for his family and thanked the Brewers and the fans for their support. He also thanked the staff at Froedtert Hospital for their efforts.

San Joaquin Valley fever is caused by a fungus that can enter the body through the lungs.
