The Milwaukee Brewers placed Estrada on the 15-day disabled list with a right ... - Wisconsin State Journal

Just over a month after he was called up to replace injured pitcher Chris Narveson, Marco Estrada will join him on the disabled list.

The Milwaukee Brewers placed Estrada on the 15-day disabled list with a right quadriceps strain Thursday, a day after the right-hander left a start after one inning.

The Brewers said they will recall pitcher Mike McClendon from Class AAA Nashville Friday to take his roster spot.

Estrada hit a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning of Wednesday's 8-5 win against the San Francisco Giants. He began limping as he rounded first base and grabbed at his leg upon reaching second.

"I almost wish I would have struck out on that," Estrada said after the game.

Trainers initially told him he had injured his right hip flexor. Estrada said he felt a "pop" in his quad.

The Brewers inserted Estrada into their rotation on April 21 after a torn left rotator cuff ended Narveson's season. Estrada is 0-3 with a 4.50 ERA in 11 appearances, including six starts.

Bringing up right-handed reliever McClendon likely means the Brewers are going to fill Estrada's absence from within their current roster. Left-hander Manny Parra is the probable fill-in.

Parra received his last major league start on Aug. 22, 2010. He finished the season with a 3-10 record. After missing all of 2011 with back and elbow injuries, he's 0-1 with a 3.70 ERA in 19 relief appearances this season.

McClendon is 2-2 with a 4.19 ERA in 13 games for Nashville, having allowed 16 hits and 10 walks while striking out 13 over 1913 innings. He was recalled from Nashville earlier this season when Narveson went down and posted a 10.13 ERA over 513 innings before being sent back down April 28.

• Catcher Paul Phillips was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for cash considerations. He was hitting .209 in 14 games with Nashville.
