Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke has been named as one of the coaches on the National League for the 83rdMLB All-Star Game.
The Brewers are currently taking on the Kansas City Royals, ironically the city where the All-Star game will be held on July 10 of this year. National League manager Tony La Russa selected Roenicke along with New York Mets manager Terry Collins to coach beside him.
The former St. Louis Cardinals manager gets this honor after his team won the World Series last season. La Russa will be bringing his entire championship staff with him to coach the NL All-Star team. The staff includes Dave Duncan, Derek Lilliquist, Mark McGwire, Dave McKay, Jose Oquendo, and Joe Pettini. Duncan is retired while McKay is currently with the Chicago Cubs and Pettini with the Houston Astros.
Roenicke gets the gracious honor after leading the Brewers to a franchise-best 96 games and their first National League Championship Series last season. La Russa’s Cardinals knocked the Brewers out in six games with both managers going at it several times down the stretch. Interesting enough, La Russa has decided to put whatever bad blood the two men may have had aside and select Roenicke as a member of the staff. There is no doubt La Russa knows a good manager when he sees one.
Regardless of whatever differences the two managers may have had last season, Roenicke deserves to be a part of the team. He accomplished many feats last year, took a good team, and made them great. Even though the Brewers may not be the team they were last season, or at least it remains to be seen, Roenicke still has his ball club in the running for the division.
Make sure to keep voting for the Brewers to send several players to Kansas City for the 2012 All-Star Game.
