Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports believes the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers could become sellers this summer if they fall out of their races. Rosenthal notes that the Phillies and Brewers have been buyers in the past, and could be again under the right circumstances.
Rosenthal names three Brewers that he considers to be potential trade candidates this summer; Zack Greinke, Shaun Marcum and Francisco Rodriguez. All three are set to hit the free agent market this winter and with the Brewers current standing in the National League Central, Rosenthal believes Milwaukee could look to trade the trio if they decide to become sellers.
Marcum and Greinke have been solid so far this season, posting ERAs and WHIPs south of 3.40 and 1.250 over 23 combined starts. Rodriguez hasnât been as dominant as he was last year for the Brewers, as his ERA and WHIP sit at 4.68 and 1.480 over his 27 appearances.
Rosenthal also speculates that the Philadelphia Phillies could become sellers this summer. Though he doesnât name any names, FOX Sports does show pictures of Hunter Pence and Shane Victorino during the report. Victorino and Phillies ace Cole Hamels are set become free agents this winter, while Pence wonât hit the open market until following the 2013 season.
Rosenthal believes that the Phillies are hanging on a precipice at the moment. Currently six games out in the NL East and with stars such as Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Roy Halladay on the disabled list, Rosenthal speculates that Philadelphia could "look to do some things" as the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline approaches.
