MILWAUKEE (AP) â" The Milwaukee Brewers will be honoring the Negro League this weekend.
They will host the seventh annual event, Negro League Tribute, on Saturday at Miller Park during their game against the Washington Nationals.
The Brewers will wear reproductions of uniforms worn by the Milwaukee Bears, the city's 1923 representative in the Negro National League. The team played only one season before disbanding.
The Washington Nationals will wear uniforms of the Homestead Grays, which played in the Negro Leagues from 1912-1950.
The Brewers will honor former Negro League players Mamie "Peanut" Johnson and Porter Reed in a pre-game ceremony. They will also be inducted in the Yesterday's Negro League Hall of Fame at the Mother Kathryn Daniels Center on Sunday afternoon.
