I guess the 35-42 Milwaukee Brewers didn't like being ashamed at home by the 39-38 Arizona Diamondbacks in the opener. Milwaukee mauled Arizona 10-2 after a 9-3 loss Friday night.
The Brewers began scoring on a wild pitch strikeout as Rickie Weeks reached base and Corey Hart swiped home plate on the play. Ryan Braun's two home runs, Cody Ransom's HR and Carlos Gomez's triple tallied more runs for Milwaukee who also struck in a run on Ransom's RBI-single during the fifth inning. The Brewers added a run during the bottom of the sixth with Carlos Gomez's HR to left field.
The D-Backs drove in their first run on Milwaukee thanks to Gerardo Parra's fielder's choice during the eighth inning. Miguel Montero's HR brought Arizona a run closer during the top of the ninth; however, that's all the visitors could muster.
0-2 Josh Collmenter with a 4.80 ERA will try preventing foes from scoring for the ninth time in his last dozen appearances. Used as a reliever in those last 12 trips to the mound Collmenter held the 41-36 Atlanta Braves, 35-40 Kansas City Royals, 43-36 New York Mets and 44-35 San Francisco Giants scoreless for 10 innings.
Oh by the way the Diamondbacks lost each and every time and fell 8-7 at the 30-46 Colorado Rockies on April 14. Collmenter shielded five runs during four innings to pick up a no-decision. The Brewers are 7-for-36 with three RBIs against Collmenter.
Milwaukee puts their trust in 6-6 Yovani Gallardo with a 4.14 ERA on Sunday. Gallardo won 7-1 at Arizona in May allowing a run during 7.1 innings. Gallardo at Miller Park has been satisfactory his last couple of trips getting wins versus the 28-50 San Diego Padres and 40-38 Toronto Blue Jays wielding five runs, four earned, during 13.2 innings.
In one other Gallardo Miller win the 43-34 Cincinnati Reds scored twice during six innings. The 28-49 Chicago Cubs and 40-38 St. Louis Cardinals stormed in 11 runs during 9.2 innings for two Gallardo home losses. The D-Backs are 20-for-99 with seven RBIs against Gallardo. The Brewers follow up a demolition with a win.
