T.J. Taylor granted release from Marquette - Examiner.com

Two weeks after arriving on campus, Marquette guard T.J. Taylor has been granted his release from the university, Golden Eagles head coach Buzz Williams announced in a statement on Wednesday.

Taylor, who verbally committed to MU in May 2011, earned third-team All-American honors this past season while playing for Paris Junior College (Texas) and was the 78th-rated prospect in the Class of 2010 by ESPN.com.

"In T.J.’s best interest, he has withdrawn from school today for personal reasons,” noted Williams, according to aol.sportingnews.com. “As a program, we are in complete support of his decision and we wish him all the best in his future as a student-athlete.”

Originally signing with Oklahoma out of high school, the 6’4, 220-pound Taylorâ€"who net per game averages of 20.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists during his senior campaign at Denison High School (Denison, Texas)â€"sustained a concussion in the preseason of his freshman campaign and was planning to redshirt before, ultimately, deciding to transferâ€"former Sooners head coach Jeff Capel cited personal reasons, according to ESPN.comâ€"in December 2010.

“Other schools offered him, however he felt comfortable with Marquette,” said Paris head coach Chuck Taylor in respect to Taylor in May 2011, according to jsonline.com. “We talked long and extensively about this decision. He just came back with the same answer every time: ‘I’m comfortable with them.’ His mom wanted him to go there out of high school, but he went to Oklahoma.

“He got an opportunity to go back, he’s comfortable with them, and that’s what he wants to do. Now he’s going to focus on his academics.”

The second player of Williams’ 2012 recruiting class to commit, Taylor will have three years of eligibility upon deciding where to resume his collegiate career.
