Hartland Student Receives National Running Award

Gatorade has honored a Southeast Wisconsin high school senior with the title of Cross Country Runner of the Year.Molly Seidel, of University Lake School in Hartland, was presented the award during her AP Literature class on Tuesday.Seidel, who stands at 5 feet 4 inches tall, completed an undefeated season this year, winning the national Foot Locker Cross Country Championships as well as being named Area Runner of the Year by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.Seidel won her fourth consecutive Division 3 individual state championship this fall, and joins three-time Olympian Suzy Favor-Hamilton as the only Wisconsin runners ever to win state cross country titled during all four prep seasons.She has maintained a 4.0 grade point average and is active in her church community and in student government. She also volunteers her time with an area equine physical therapy center and as a sailing instructor."Without question, Molly is deserving of recognition as the nation's best high school girls cross country runner based on her statistics on the course and the impact her accomplishments have had on University Lake School's success," said Gatorade President and Chief Marketing Officer Sarah Robb O'Hagan. "She is also a shining example to peers and aspiring young athletes of what a leader and a student-athlete should be."Seidel has made a verbal commitment to an athletic scholarship at the University of Notre Dame beginning this fall.
