DETROIT -- According to multiple sources, including The Associated Press, Prince Fielder is very close to moving across Lake Michigan to play ball.Jon Heyman at CBSSports.com reported that Fielder's deal with the Detroit Tigers would be a nine-year, $214 million contract.The Associated Press stopped short of saying Fielder had signed, stating that the deal is "close."The Associated Press' source spoke on condition of anonymity Tuesday because talks are ongoing. The person says "there are still some things that need to be worked out."

Fielder, 27, is the son of former first baseman Cecil Fielder. Prince and Cecil are the only father-son combination in MLB history to each hit 50 home runs in a season. Cecil Fielder played for the Detroit Tigers from 1990-1996.Prince holds the Brewers' team record for home runs in a season, and is the youngest player to hit 50 home runs in a season.In 2011, Fielder batted .299, led the National League in intentional walks (32; a Brewers record), was second in the league in home runs (38), and was third in slugging percentage (.566).Related Stories:
