Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has reported via Twitter that starter Chris Narveson has confirmed he will undergo season ending shoulder surgery to repair his torn rotator cuff.

The Milwaukee Brewers placed Narveson on the 15-day disabled list last Friday as they were unsure how significant the damage of the injury was. The left-hander made significant strides last season in his first full year as a starter. Milwaukee has high hopes for Narveson as they continue to build a strong pitching staff.

The Brewers called-up right-handed reliever Mike McClendon, who was a heavy favorite to make the roster, from Triple-A Nashville and prospect Wily Peralta, a right-handed pitcher who is highly regarded as Milwaukee’s No. 1 pitching prospect. Peralta will be sent back down once reliever Kameron Loe returns from his leave of absence to attend his grandfather’s funeral. However, he could be brought back up depending on what the Brewers want to do considering he is their top prospect.

Marco Estrada will most likely be the pitcher who will take over for Narveson in the starting rotation. In seven starts last season, Estrada posted a 3-2 record with a 3.70 ERA. In his only start this season he went 5.0 innings and surrendered one earned run on two hits while striking out nine batters.  Estrada should be able to handle the back-end of the rotation considering he has the repertoire of pitches and the delivery to fool hitters.

Los Angeles specialist Lewis Yocum will perform the arthroscopic surgery necessary to repair Narveson’s torn rotator cuff. He will undergo surgery as soon as possible and will have to rehab his shoulder for the next 6-9 months.

In only two starts this season Narveson posted a 1-1 record with a 7.00 ERA, five strikeouts and four walks in 9.0 innings pitched. He also gave up eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits in that span.
