The Milwaukee Brewers may only be 18-26 but that does not mean they do not have players performing well. Milwaukee has at least three players that have a legitimate shot at making the All-Star team, with two of them as starters. The season is only seven weeks young but that does not mean we cannot take a look at the top five players so far this year.
#1 Ryan Braun
Ryan Braun continues to amaze as he is off to another phenomenal season. The reigning National League MVP leads the team with 31 runs, 52 hits, 12 home runs, 31 RBI, nine stolen bases and a .393 on-base percentage while coming in second with a .323 batting average. Braun may not be the highest vote getter for the All-Star game this season like he was last year but that still does not mean he can’t be the starter in left field.
#2 Jonathan Lucroy
Jonathan Lucroy is having a career year after signing a five-year extension before the start of the season. Lucroy is currently one of the best catchers in the game offensively and defensively. If it was not for Carlos Ruiz of the Philadelphia Phillies he would be the best. He leads the team with a .349 batting average, .393 on-base percentage, nine doubles and three triples. He ranks second on the Brewers with 45 hits, 29 RBI and comes in third with 5 home runs.
#3 Zack Greinke
On a team filled with pitchers that are not living up to the hype, Zack Greinke powers through and shows them how it is done. Greinke is proving once again why he is one of the more underrated pitchers in baseball. He leads the team in almost every pitching category, which is saying something when there are relievers who have pitched less than half of the innings he has. Greinke tops the Brewers with a 2.70 ERA, 59 strikeouts, 1.11 WHIP and five wins in 56.2 innings pitched. He has only surrendered one home run all season.
#4 Corey Hart
Corey Hart has been very streaky this year but when he is on he has helped out Milwaukee in a big way. The right fielder has made a few starts at first base after injuries and inconsistencies among the offense have forced him to play the position. He looks like a natural as he has already made one diving stop for an out. On offense Hart has been sensational at times with 29 runs, 41 hits, 13 doubles, nine home runs, 20 RBI with a .258 batting average and .328 on-base percentage.
#5 Norichika Aoki/Travis Ishikawa
Norichika Aoki and Travis Ishikawa are tied for fifth as they have both done incredible things this season with very limited playing time. Aoki has done his part on offense and defense. He may not have power numbers or even that many RBI but he has gotten on base in front of the sluggers when it matters most. He has 10 runs, 22 hits, four doubles, two triples, one home run, six RBI with a .297 batting average and .373 on-base percentage in 74 at-bats.
Ishikawa has been even more sensational with reduced playing time. The first baseman has filled in well for the injured Mat Gamel and has numbers that rival Prince Fielder’s even though he has a third of the at-bats. However, for whatever reason, manager Ron Roenicke still decides to not play him on a regular basis which makes absolutely no sense. Ishikawa has seven runs, 16 hits, five doubles, four home runs, 13 RBI with a .262 batting average and .326 on-base percentage in 61 plate appearances.
