Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Marco Estrada will miss his next three to four starts with a strained right quadriceps suffered in Wednesday’s game with the San Francisco Giants, reports the Journal-Sentinel‘s Brewers Blog.
Estrada hurt his leg trying to stretch out a double in the first inning of Wednesday’s game. The injury was initially diagnosed as a hip-flexor strain.
The 28-year-old right-hander is 0-3 Â in six starts this season and has a 4.50 ERA in 11 total appearances. Estrada moved into the rotation when Chris Narveson was lost for the season after shoulder surgery. First baseman Mat Gamel and shortstop Alex Gonzalez also have suffered season-ending injuries this year.
Estrada’s injury does not seem as serious. Manager Ron Roenicke said Wednesday that left-handed pitcher Manny Parra is likely to fill Estrada’s spot while he is out, but general manager Doug Melvin said the team still is considering other options as well.
