CHICAGO â" A no-decision left Michael Fiers in no mood to complain.
The Milwaukee starter pitched shutout ball into the eighth inning, and the Brewers wound up losing 1-0 to the Chicago White Sox in the 10th on Sunday.
âItâs OK. Iâve got to do my job and the runs we score is what we score,â Fiers said. âIf I get a loss, it doesnât matter to me. Itâs putting zeros up on the board and keeping my team in the game and getting a good result.â
Fiers gave up six hits and struck out four in 71/3 innings, and appeared to get stronger as the game progressed.
âThe first couple of innings were kind of off, but later on I felt as good as I ever had,â he said. âI wasnât making pitches early on and I kind of beat myself. I was trying to pinpoint it too much, so I just throw the ball and let it work.â
Chicago won when pinch-hitter Eduardo Escobarâs single off Manny Parra (0-2) scored Alejandro De Aza.
Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said his team failed to take advantage of opportunities.
âWe had plenty of chances. Weâre playing all these close ballgames and weâre not doing little things to help us win games,â he said. âWe didnât make all these mistakes last year.â
But he was satisfied with Fiersâ effort.
âHe threw a real good ballgame,â Roenicke said. âMixed speeds up well. That was a great job by him.â
De Aza opened the White Sox 10th with a double off Parra. Adam Dunn walked with one out and Escobar, batting for Lillibridge, singled.
The White Sox ended 9-9 in interleague play, while the Brewers closed at 6-12. It has been a frustrating run for Roenicke and the Brewers, who havenât been above .500 since April.
âThings just arenât clicking for us,â he said. âEverythingâs just a little bit off.â
