Milwaukee Brewers lose to Chicago White Sox in 10 innings - Green Bay Press Gazette

CHICAGO â€" A no-decision left Michael Fiers in no mood to complain.

The Milwaukee starter pitched shutout ball into the eighth inning, and the Brewers wound up losing 1-0 to the Chicago White Sox in the 10th on Sunday.

“It’s OK. I’ve got to do my job and the runs we score is what we score,” Fiers said. “If I get a loss, it doesn’t matter to me. It’s putting zeros up on the board and keeping my team in the game and getting a good result.”

Fiers gave up six hits and struck out four in 71/3 innings, and appeared to get stronger as the game progressed.

“The first couple of innings were kind of off, but later on I felt as good as I ever had,” he said. “I wasn’t making pitches early on and I kind of beat myself. I was trying to pinpoint it too much, so I just throw the ball and let it work.”

Chicago won when pinch-hitter Eduardo Escobar’s single off Manny Parra (0-2) scored Alejandro De Aza.

Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said his team failed to take advantage of opportunities.

“We had plenty of chances. We’re playing all these close ballgames and we’re not doing little things to help us win games,” he said. “We didn’t make all these mistakes last year.”

But he was satisfied with Fiers’ effort.

“He threw a real good ballgame,” Roenicke said. “Mixed speeds up well. That was a great job by him.”

De Aza opened the White Sox 10th with a double off Parra. Adam Dunn walked with one out and Escobar, batting for Lillibridge, singled.

The White Sox ended 9-9 in interleague play, while the Brewers closed at 6-12. It has been a frustrating run for Roenicke and the Brewers, who haven’t been above .500 since April.

“Things just aren’t clicking for us,” he said. “Everything’s just a little bit off.”
