GREEN BAY - It’s a new year and with it there is a new boys basketball team atop the FOX 11 Top 11 boys basketball poll. Former No. 1 De Pere fell to Germantown over the holiday break, and while that’s hardly a bad loss, a loss is a loss and the Redbirds must fall from their perch.
Replacing the Redbirds on top is Little Chute, which just keeps on winning. The Mustangs have won all 11 games this season, following the lead of Turner Botz and Kenneth Lowe.
Rounding out the top five are undefeated teams Pulaski and Luxemburg-Casco, followed by De Pere and Sheboygan North.
While there was shuffling in the top five, there were also two teams that left the poll. Kewaunee and Kimberly exited, while Olympian powers Brillion and Valders entered the poll.
On the girls’ side, there was no such movement on top. New London remains the top dog and is followed by fellow undefeateds Bay Port and Algoma, which each captured holiday tournament titles.
No teams left the poll but the highest-ranked team to fall was then-No. 4 Oshkosh Lourdes, which lost to Division 1 Nicolet, 50-39, at a holiday tournament. It was Lourdes’ first loss of the season.
Next week promises to have a lot of movement as ranked teams play in big games this coming week.

2. Pulaski (9-0): Red Raiders next big game is mid-January against De Pere. Last week: No. 3.
3. Luxemburg-Casco (9-0): Spartans can fill it up in a hurry. Last week: No. 4.
4. De Pere (8-1): Redbirds’ first loss of season came to powerful Germantown. Last week: No. 1.
5. Sheboygan North (7-2): Raiders’ two losses have come to De Pere and Bay Port. Last week: No. 5.
6. Kaukauna (7-1): Jason Miller leading the way at 15.1 ppg. Last week: No. 7.
7. Bay Port (8-2): Pirates won twice over holiday. Last week: No. 11.
8. Appleton West (6-2): Terrors have big week playing Oshkosh West and Oshkosh North. Last week: No. 8.
9. Brillion (7-1): Recently beat Racine St. Cate’s, 58-37. Last week: unranked.
10. Valders (8-1): Only loss of season came at Brillion. Last week: unranked
11. Fox Valley Lutheran (7-2): Got handled by Antigo in last game. Last week: No. 10.
-Dropped out: No. 9 Kewaunee (5-3); lost three straight. No. 11 Kimberly (6-3); Papermakers have lost two of last three.
3-pointers
- 1. Kaukauna’s road test at Appleton North on Tuesday is FOX 11’s boys game of the week.
- 2. The Fox Valley Association will have some movement this week with Kaukauna and North meeting and Appleton West playing both Oshkosh schools.
- 3. One of the most entertaining teams in the area is Luxemburg-Casco. The Spartans shoot threes, press and play fast.
Girls
1. New London (7-0): Bulldogs’ next three games on the road. Last week: No. 1.
2. Bay Port (8-0): Pirates win West De Pere holiday tournament. Last week: No. 2.
3. Algoma (9-0): Wolves win Ashwaubenon holiday tournament. Last week: No. 3
4. Fond du Lac (7-1): Only undefeated team in Fox Valley Association play. Last week: No. 5.
5. Kimberly (5-1): Makers go to Fondy on Tuesday and host Appleton East on Friday. Last week: No. 6.
6. Appleton East (6-1): Big games this week versus Oshkosh North and Appleton East. Last week: No. 7.
7. Sheboygan North (6-1): Has scored 70 or more points in last two games. Last week: No. 8.
8. Oshkosh Lourdes (7-1): Knights suffer first loss to second-ranked team in Division 1, Nicolet. Last week: No. 4.
9. Xavier (5-0): Big game Friday with Freedom. Last week: No. 10.
10. Berlin (5-1): Big game Friday at Fox Valley Lutheran. Last week: No. 11.
11. Preble (4-2): Hornets split games over holiday. Last week: No. 9.

- 1. FVA leader Fond du Lac has big week this week with games against Kimberly and Friday at Appleton North in the FOX 11 girls game of the week.
- 2. A team to keep an eye on is Oshkosh West. After an 0-3 start, the Wildcats have won five straight.
- 3. Berlin’s Callie Walker is No. 6 in the state, averaging 23.2 points per game.
