Ex-UW athletic official blames alcohol

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A top University of Wisconsin-Madison athletic department official who resigned earlier this month says alcohol "controlled and consumed" his life in recent months.

John Chadima released the statement Tuesday through a Madison law firm.

The university previously announced that Chadima resigned on Jan. 6 after being placed on administrative leave for what UW said was an allegation of misconduct.

The university has formed a panel to investigate the allegations but has not said what they were.

Chadima's attorney, Charles Giesen, tells the Wisconsin State Journal he gave the university permission to release the report Tuesday night. A university spokesman had no comment.

In his statement, Chadima says he is "deeply saddened" by the contents of the review but says they are "not reflective" of his lifestyle, management style or beliefs
